A question about Blocks !

Recommended Posts

I usually used Block in my drawings because it was really useful when I wanted to adjust the same objects immediately. I'm used to using the command: blockreplace to replace a block by another, for instance block A to B, and then Autocad will replace all of blocks A to B. Sonetime, that is uncomfortable. If I only want to replace Block on a select area, How will I have to do? ( All the rest of Blocks is not changed)

Please help me solve this trouble!

Thanks in advanced,

Thanh An

if u change one block they will all change no matter wat, u'll have to replace the objects that u want changed with a new redefined block

Thanks for a answer, But I don't understand what you imply. Could you describe more clearly?

I only want to replace Block (A) on a select area, All the rest of Blocks (A) is outside that area, is not changed)

you CANNOT selectively change SOME blocks. Block A will always look like all other Block As. The one exception is with dynamic blocks but that is a whole new subject. If you only want some blocks to be different you must define a new block and place that one in your drawing.

It may be possible to do the selective replacement using LISP etc. but it is impossible with stanadard AutoCAD.

I always found that there is a way to change individual blocks with the REFEDIT command, so long as you change the name of the block when you REFCLOSE... Is that just a Mechanical feature?

I can't change the name using REFEDIT. I can do a "save as" using BEDIT but that just creates the new block, it doesn't change any existing blocks. So either I misundersttod you or it is Mechanical specific.

Sorry Dave just checked it's AMREFCLOSE- I generally use the button so never knew it was different. It gives a dialogue box in which you can change the name, although no help in this instance. :(
