I used to render heaps in autocad as the company i work for would not shell out for viz in my branch. rendering in autocad is not to bad in the scheme of things. i mean, once you have worked out the settings and you get your lights set correctly, you can output some really good images.
I then managed to get my hands on Accurender plug in. and that too outputs a really good image. It really only adds more functionallity to autocad and is probably more user friendly.
The company i work for has just purchased viz 4 for my computer, and this month i plan to attend the 3 day training course. Should be intersting.

Yes Nick, it's a case of have to use Acad for rendering. I have a setup for 3 lights that gives good shadow effects for most models. My pupils have produced some great renderings once they became familiar with how to change materials and light settings.
I wouldn't mind having access to Bryce or Viz though to try out some other effects.

Maybe get one educational copy of Studio. I think once the settings are there it's okay, although I have just spent 10 50min periods doing rendering with my kids and it's only worth six marks !.
Anyway I have only just turned on my PC after week of rock climbing and hillwalking in the first week of my hols.

Rob,

No problem. Email me a personal email and I'll post you a PowerPoint presentation I do for my pupils at school in which I show how to attach a material to a model, edit the material colour and add three distant lights with shadows to create a realistic looking model.
The file is about 2MB but I could zip it down to about 1.2MB before emailing it to you. Let me know.
