Hello I'm using R14. The problem I'm having is Multi text. I type out a peragraph and say one word in that paragraph I would like to underline. So I click on the underline button and hi-lite the word I want to underline, but it underlines that word and everything after it. Is there a setting I've activated. If so could someone tell me. thanks in advance.

you should try and highlite the text "before" you hit the underline button.
by highliting the text "after" you hit the underline button, you are telling autocad to underline all text that you type in.

Thanks for the tip G but that didn't work. The problem is I've typed out a paragraph and a word in the paragraph I would like to underline so I hitelight the word I wish to underline and click on the undeline button at the top of the mtext editor box. The word is underlined there, but when I click the ok button that word and evrything after that word is underline. Thanks in advance 8)

Try typing it all out without underlining - then in the text editor box, highlight the desired word & click the underline button.
A setting for underlining text from the old days (release 10 to 12) is by prefixing & postfixing the desired word with %%u. (eg %%uWORD%%u) would give you WORD. I think this only works in dtext, not in mtext.

This is what I mean
I want this
PROVIDE HEAVY DUTY AIR-HOSE WITH QUICK-CONNECT COUPLINGS FOR CONNECTION TO PORTABLE AIR COMPRESSOR MOUNTED ON WALL. REFER TO ARCHITECTURAL DRAWINGS FOR LOCATION AND MOUNTING DETAILS.
not this
PROVIDE HEAVY DUTY AIR-HOSE WITH QUICK-CONNECT COUPLINGS FOR CONNECTION TO PORTABLE AIR COMPRESSOR MOUNTED ON WALL. REFER TO ARCHITECTURAL DRAWINGS FOR LOCATION AND MOUNTING DETAILS.
now what I'm doing is hitelighting the word portable and in the mtext editor box it looks fine but, once I click the ok button. I get everything including portable underline. I'd like to know if I've activated a setting that I didn't know of. THX in advance. 8)

Can I guess that you're using AutoCAD 2000. I just checked my copy of 2000 and I get the same problem. I think it must be a bug - I'll check other versions to comfirm that. There doesn't appear to be any way round this problem because the %%u code doesn't work in MText. But it does work with DText as Bloke suggests.

OK, I have the SP. In fact it's a problem with acad 14, 2000 and 2000i when running on Windows 2000. See here for a description and a workaround:

Oh, sorry - it's a horse racing term that has dropped into common parlance here in the UK. It stands for "Starting Price" and is used to mean information/low down/details...

Ok, I don't get it. I just tried it in ADT3 (2000i) and it worked like a charm. I copied REIVAX's text from his message and went into ACAD and inserted new mtext and pasted, highlighted "portable" and selected underline and clicked OK and it worked. Am I missing something? REIVAX, does it have to be mtext? Could dtext work? Could always use the %%U code. Good luck.

I'm getting the same problem in XP, but the above link doesn't work anymore!

How do I get round it? :?
