Need a cheap, if not free, software that I can make a mpeg or avi movie file from a rotating rendered view of my dwg from AutoCAD.

Thanks.

Or take a look at this topic (http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=917).

Although you can still find free downloads for Camstudio (I found one here (http://www.brothersoft.com/Multimedia_Graphics_Screen_Capture_CamStudio_3944. html)) it appears to have been absorbed (along with RoboDemo) by Macromedia and is now known as Captivate. Get it now while you still can.

and make sure it is version 2.0, not 2.1 or later

Hendie doesn't tell us why but you can get what he suggests by looking here (http://www.funchords.com/favorite/freeware/cam_studio_20/).

Too much hand-holding going on here - sorry.

I use Windows Media player to encode video files of onscreen activity.

Just goto the MPlayer site and look for the Encoder add on, it's free and dead easy to use. The file size is small and gives high quality playback.
