shox Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 Hey guys, i have just started college and all is going well in my introdutory modules. I have a autocad 2009 at home and i am having trouble getting started with it? We have introductory templates at college but when i open a new drawing (acadiso.dwt) it seems huge and the starting point in the corner point is something like 2000.2000. Being completely new to this how in the simplest terms possible, how do i set up the page to a good size to be able to do basic exercises on? Thanks (sorrry for being such a newb!) Quote
ReMark Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 These introductory templates were provided by the college? Why wouldn't the bottom left-hand corner not be something like 0,0? Quote

No i just start the acadiso.dwt template from on my own autocad 2009 at home. I thought the bottom corner would be 0,0 by default? Quote
ReMark Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 I never gave it much thought (bottom corner of template being 0,0). I'll have to check that out. Quote

Like i said, i've only being doing this a couple of weeks so i must be doing something wrong! I have looked at tutorials and it mentions setting limits and scales to have a good starting point but i dont know much about this. Quote
ReMark Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 I seldom set hard limits unless there is a need to. These have already been incorporated in our master titleblock and borders for the various sheet sizes we use. As far as scales go you are drawing full size in model space are you not? Quote

I am assuming so, i have just turned on the program and selected the template. The work area seems huge. The dragging icons take ages to get from one side to another? Quote
ReMark Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 Icons? What icons are we dragging? Do you mean blocks/symbols? Just out of curiousity what is the readout when you type LIMITS at the command line for the lower-left / upper-right hand corners of your template? Quote

Lower left is 0000.0000 and upper right is 420.0000 - 297.0000 Quote
shox Posted September 11, 2009 Author Posted September 11, 2009 Lower left is 0000.0000 and upper right is 420.0000 - 297.0000 I seem to be having better luck with the acad.dwt template, it seems more like the set up we use in college. Quote
ReMark Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 Re: acad.dwt template. That's good to hear. Then you are all set to go right? Ready to design the next big thing? What will it be? Give us a hint. Quote

ReMark Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 I do not consider you ignorant just because you ask a few questions. I have many questions myself each and every day. I come here and most often as not I find the answer to those questions. We have a lot of knowledgeable and friendly people willing to help here. I readily admit I do not know it all. I think I know some but definitely not all. Keep it real. Peace out. Quote
