View Full Version : Joining Polylines

I'm using AutoCAD 2005, but I've had this problem in all previous version of AutoCAD that I've used (AC LT95, ACLT 98, AC2000, ACLT 2002, ACLT 2004).

Every so often, when I join polylines to each other, the join will take place, but a vertex will just disappear somewhere along the polyline. The disappearing vertex usually isn't even near where the join has taken place! This only seems to happen when I join polylines so that the object will close.

Does anyone else have this happen to them, and does anyone know why? It's really irritating, especially if the vertex that disappears is off-screen and you don't find out about it until later!!

mmmh sounds weird. have you tried regenerating the drawing right after the join operation?

keystrokes: RE or REA for regen all.

Yep - the vertex actually disappears. It's not just a display problem.

i cant recreate it man. give us more specifics about how exactly this happens. what type of pline are u drawing, is it a straight PL? any weight?

every segment in the polyline is on the x-y plane yea? because lines will disappear if they are not all on the same plane

The polylines I'm joining are generally straight (for example, a building footprint) & they are as simple as you could want - no lineweight, they're all 2D lines, etc.

This only happens when I join PLs so that they close. If I join the same lines minus one so that the PL remains open, there's no problem. If I then end the command, and then join the last line to the PL in order to close it, that's also fine, but trying to join them all at once sometimes causes these vertices to disappear. :?

I've had the same problem. I have to rejoin the same segments of line after breaking it in another place. I've also had problems with some lines refusing to join together at all; yes they are coplaner and both polylines. Does anybody have any ideas?

well seems like you found a way around the problem... kind of like for me the hatching sometimes doesnt want to hatch for nothing. :geek:
