I'm hoping someone has the magic bullet for this one...
Running AutoCAD 2005 on WinXP in an office with several sole proprietors in one suite. I do work for each. One of these folks insists on turning off his computer over the weekend or whenever he is out of town. This computer is where his job files reside (i.e., I access them via our network). Also, one of our office printers is also connected to this machine. The problem occurs when I try to use several of the commands located under the 'File' menu: open, new, plot - AutoCAD simply locks up for a minute, sometime several, while I assume it is searching for the offline network resources. This occurs even if I am trying to open a file locally off my system. I have disabled the listing of recent files that typically are shown under the 'File' menu, but this has no effect on this vexing behavior.
Does anyone know of a way to prevent AutoCAD from doing this 'completely unresponsive' act? Is there a switch or system variable that perhaps specifies that the max. search time for missing network resources? Any workaround at all?
And yes, I have spoken with the individual about this & no, he will not stop turning off his machine. His stubborness sometimes makes a mule look downright accomodating.
