View Full Version : Defpoints - "Can't Touch This"
O Snap!

Hi, I'm currently in 2004 (the software, not state of mind)
I'm not sure what I'm doing different, but lately, objects drawn in my defpoints layer will suddenly become untouchable. Basically, once drawn, you can't select them, edit them, not even erase them. But then at some point, they once again become selectable like normal.
Can someone explain what is causing this? Is it a GROUPS or BLOCK thing? Or something in LAYERS ? :?

Is your defpoints layer locked?

This happens to me as well, but only if the defpoints layer is isolated. All I do is make some other layer visible and the behavior of the defpoints layer returns to normal.
I don't know why this happens, I just know that it works for me.

Is your defpoints layer locked?
Nope, I know it's not that. When layers are "locked", you can still select items, then it tells you you can't modify the selected locked items.

Is it soley realted to to defpoints?Have a look at PICKFIRST & GRIPS if it isnt.Possible you could have a LISP/S running that keeps setting this variables on and off

If Layer "0" is off or frozen you may not be able to select items on "defpoints".

I am with Carl on this one.

:o
We got a winner here. Tried it. That's exactly what must've been happening in my drawings.
Why those two would be connected, dunno. Apparently that was the problem.
Thanks.

Has been a 'feature' for long..... just pay attention to layer zero!

"Why those two would be connected", 0 and defpoint.
not just that two are connected.
to start a new drawing defpoints are not on a layer, you even not create it. right? defpoints only appear once you start making a dimension in your drawing.
and for your information defpoints layer is not printable.

make sure layer "0"is on. i'm not sure why, but when i have layer "0" off, it seems the defpoints layer locks.

A known bug is that if you turn off/freeze layer 0, objects on layer Defpoints remain visible, but you can't select them. These objects can be selected using the All option, but other selection methods don't work. Why are you using the defpoints layer to draw on?Are the objects on this layer for non plotting objects?why not just put them on a non plotting layer?

Dang I knew this one and it drove me nuts for 2 years.......
Yes layer 0 can not be off or froze while modifiing defpoints.
That was 2 years of lost hair down the drain :?

Forgive my ignorance but what is the purpose of drawing an object using the defpoints layer?

Others, including myself once, use it to make absolutely sure some entities do not plot, (Notes to self, etc :) ) Perhaps not the best way but....

Hi Guys
An old thread i know but how can i delete defpoints without affecting the rest of the drawing as everytime i try and delete this layer the whole drawing disappears!

Just a guess but is your entire drawing on the defpoints layer? Why are you trying to delete it?

Not a def point drawing, but stuff that is sitting behind the actual drawing. It was during a stripdown of the architects drawing that it happen to have def points layers! Grrr

Ok, here's what I think is happening. Someone inserted a block on layer Defpoints. Now you come along and decide that you want to delete layer Defpoints so you start up the LAYDEL command, select Defpoints from the Name list, hit OK and the block disappears. To solve this problem, just select the block and move it to a different layer. You should then be able to delete layer Defpoints as long as you don't have any dimensions in your drawing. If you do have dimensions then you should not delete layer Defpoints.

Thanks buddy
On changing the layer defpoint to another layer, it appears to change all my other layers as well and still i cannot filter it out. :(
Any how i guess i will have to try and ignore the ******!
Cheers
