Plotting Dot Hatch

I'm having problems plotting dot hatches.
I'm trying to use them as a shading for a drawing but whenever I plot them some of the dots (in a regular pattern) come out very dark.
I am using 2005 LT but had the same problem with 2004 LT.
The plot pen settings are set to: Color:Black Lineweight:0.0100mm.
Anyone any ideas?

Can you use SOLID hatch with a screened color for shading instead?

I guess theres a few ways of getting round the problem but anyone know why it doesn't work?
