Explain Dimscale Please

If 1/4" = 1'-0" = dimscale 48

and 1/8" = 1'-0" = dimscale 96

why doesn't 3/16" = 1'-0" = 72

I know where the numbers come from (1/4 = 12/1) = (48/1) , I just don't understand why 3/16 is not 1.5 X 48 or 72.

Over 20 years experience, so be nice to me...

16 / 3 x 12 / 1 = 192 / 3 = 64. It's a math thing that's all. Next you'll want 1+1 = 3. LOL

I had 3 architects (so no help there) and 2 stuctural engineers trying to figure out the logic behind this and we came up empty. But that 1 +1 = 3 theory may just have put me on the right track! Thanks LOL

How many time does 3/16" go into 1'-0"? (hint... divide 12" by 3/16")

Architects I can understand... but structural engineers? I hope they aren't... aw nevermind

DIMSCALE is a variable used by those who have not yet been enlightened by the easier ways of dimensioning and notating everything in paperspace or using annotative scaling ;-)

DIMSCALE is also handy for those legacy drawings that no one will ever get around to adding a layout to.

Thanks to all... I will never be able to repay all of you for all the help you have provided!

I may be a legacy draftsman and will probably never change, But just like an old corvette will smoke a new one, never count out an old draftsman.

When the "End Times" come and the power goes off you'll still be able to draft plans for a new society. All those Caddies will be lost without a keyboard, a monitor, and that "magic box" that ties it all together.
