OK the guys at work are stuck with Mechanical Desktop and set in there ways, but with the constant fatal errors and lack of parametrics I learned myself Inventor.

The only problem is we have masses of drawings and we all edit them. The problem comes when the guys need to edit my work which is inventor files. Is there a way to enable MDT users to edit my inventor files (I converted to iges then opened in MDT but u can't edit the entries as parts, then just appear to be nothing), but more importantly is there a way to keep track of whether the files that they edit (presumably a different format of the file like dwg) have been changed so we know the latest version?

I was thinking of Vault 4, but I cannot seem to find any info on it as to whether it would do cross-platform tracking...?

Some suggestions - 8)

Vault would be a good solution for this. You can store any kind of file, not just IV files. The check-in/check-out policy will work for any type of file and MDT has a Vault add-in with a toolbar so your co-workers can manage their files (and yours).

Check into "Linking"

1. You can link MDT parts into an Inventor assembly.... Editing the part
calls MDT.

2. You can link IV parts into a MDT part file.... the MDT part files can
then be used to create an MDT assembly......
