I have been recieving architecturals from a firm who use xclips for their plans. What we need to do is explode their drawings so we can make them a really light colour and draw over the top. The problem here is that when we explode their drawings, everything outside the xclip appears. Is there a way to select all blocks in a drawing, and delete everything thats outside the xclip? Ive read that i can use the xclipframe command, but all that does is put a rectangle around the xclip. Supposedly i can use that to trim anything outside the xclip. However with these drawings there are about 30 xclips. I dont want to have to spend 10 minutes selecting them all and doing this. Is there any way to just keep the information contained within the xclip?

Thanks

Why not just change the color the the xref layers?

The reason i can't just change the colour is because most of the drawing are blocks, and the colour wont change without exploding. This is where the problem is created... Trust me ive tried everything amd the only way i can think of it working is to have some way that the items outside of the xclip boundary can be deleted.

1. Restore xlip contour (polyline)
2. Explode blocks
3. Use Express tools EXTRIM command or
CookieCutter2 - more fun with ET extrim (http://www.theswamp.org/index.php?topic=24646.0)

In your dropdown menu under modify is the SETBYLAYER command or called out in the menu as Change to bylayer will change blocks and other entities to bylayer without the need to explode. It is the third one down in the menu.

I would do it like what buzzard suggested but if you want to try this:

Wmfout the xclipped block then Wmfin it on a new drawing then explode it, you'll get entities within xclip's frame. You can take care of the scaling.

I just ran into the same issue, and found the following utility:
