bmp selction in toolbar by variable?

I think I can create a .mns that will select which existing .bmp to use by refering to an external variable.

However I can not seem to find a resource to explain how to get a function to return a value?

Please bring us some light here: do you wish to place in a variable the path and the filename for a bmp image? And are you using AutoCAD 2000+?
I do not understand your intention –probable this is caused by my poor English. So please return with more details.
