erased all of a block instead of one

Danger prone Cadpoles done it again. I messed up my drawing yesterday. I made a lot of changes to it and at the same time had 5 construction guys pulling me different directions.

The problem is on a drawing that has 5 or so xrefs. I modified a block in one of the x-ref'd drawings wrong and now they have all disapeared. (yes, I have this look often.) I have learned to keep a copy of the original. So I used quick select to grab the effected block (512 of it) and tried puting them back on the original. When I did, they disapear. I'm pretty sure I ref-edit'd the block instead of the x-ref.(~great!~) I just don't know how to fix it; short of erasing them, purging the drawing and then reinserting the original then go through the entire drawing looking for changes. I would so like to avoid that. Is there an easier way?

I'm using 2010 LT.

have you checked to make sure the layer the block is on isnt frozen or off?

Yep, tried dumping it in on a different layer even.

have your tried a qselect of the block in the problem drawing and deleting everything selected then a purge then try pasting the right/old ones in?

I'm trying to avoid that if posible. A lot of things were rearanged yesterday and would effect several drawings along with this one. It appears they are invisible and if I can figure out the right thing to do, they will reapear. (Sure sounds like I'm hoping for magic.)

are all layers thawed unlocked and turned on?

Yep everything is on.

I like your quote. One of my favorite sayings is "OSHA is bringing down the median intelligence of the entire country."

you have the original block somewhere and you have 512 instances of that block in your drawing but you can't see them?

If so it sounds like you definition is there but wrong. Have you tried inserting just one of the "wrong" block to see if it does insert correctly?

(Hoping they don't have attributes) I would redefine the block again and see what happens. I usually draw a diagonla line (quite long) and use that as the new definition. Make sure your line is on layer 0 "just in case". If you now have 512 diagonal lines something went wrong during the previous ref edit but I'm not going to guess what.

Now you can insert the correct block that you have stored away and all will be good :)

If you do have attributes you can do the above but DO NOT do an ATTSYNC until you are happy with the redefined block.

If I have misunderstood your problem I'm sorry. :)

I can draw other things on this layer just not the u-bend block. All other blocks are working. I think what I did was refedited that block erased the components in that block and then it saved the block with nothing in it. I can't get ahold of the nothingness to re open it and the Battman command didn't work. . . . . . . . wait. . . . . I figured it out BEDIT!!!!!!!!(Bounce, bounce, bounce!) I opened it up in bedit in the other drawing. Copied the bend. Went back to the problem drawing and pasted it in saved and they all reapeared. MAGIC! Chelsea, thanks for the kick in the backside to knock my brain out of neutral. I was stuck in the helpless damsel loop. Some times all you need is some one to make you walk through the steps.

Thanks to you too Dave. The more ammo I have the more I can shoot at the problem. Something was bound to hit.
