williamS Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 This morning I created a 3D model of a fulcrum support and filleted a number of edges with a radii of 4mm. I then used SOLVIEW and SOLDRAW to obtain drawing views in paper space. All looked OK so I saved and closed the file. I've just re-opened the drawing this evening and the fillets no longer appear on the 3D model though they continue to appear on the views in paper space. See the attached file. This is ODD isn't it? Anyone have any ideas why this is happening. Fulcrum support.dwg Quote
SuperCAD Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Why would you use SOLVIEW and SOLDRAW? Why not use FLATSHOT for your ISO and a section plane to get your elevations and sections? Quote
williamS Posted December 30, 2009 Author Posted December 30, 2009 SOLVIEW and SOLDRAW seems more intuitive - with FLATSHOT you have to align the views in paper space etc. I did use FLATSHOT initially but the vertical hidden lines in the plan view in paper space appeared as a continuous linetype yet, correctly as a hidden linetype in model space (all other linetypes were OK). ReMark Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 I use SolView and SolDraw because that's the way I was taught. But you better be careful because if you change your mind about some of the geometry it's a PITA to go back and redo things. I usually make a backup drawing of the solid geometry prior to using the two commands. Quote
SuperCAD Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Can you save the file back to a 2007 format so I can open it and see what you're trying to do. SOLVIEW/DRAW are archaic commands (in my opinion) and (for me at least) using flatshot and section planes are a much easier way of getting isometric views and elevations/sections. Quote
JD Mather Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 ...Anyone have any ideas why this is happening. I recommend turning off solidhist (see tutorials in signature) in your template. (must be off before you start) I have reported this problem to Autodesk several time since v2007. Quote
williamS Posted December 30, 2009 Author Posted December 30, 2009 All OK now - turned off SOLIDHIST on template as suggested and redrew model. Thanks for your help. Quote
ReMark Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I thought it was a good idea to turn SOLIDHIST on. In the case cited above it appears this isn't true. So my question is, When is it a recommended procedure? Quote
SuperCAD Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I have it on all the time and I haven't experienced any problems, but I don't use SOLVIEW/DRAW. Quote
JD Mather Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I have it on all the time and I haven't experienced any problems, but I don't use SOLVIEW/DRAW. The problem is not related to solview/soldraw and is intermittent - I cannot indentify a sequence of steps that reproduce the behavior but I have identified the problem from numerous sources across many user forums. For most of the problems I have been able to demonstrate that opening the dwg file in Inventor magically causes the geometry to reappear. I reported the problem, with examples, to Autodesk for 4 years before anyone at Autodesk would even admit (sort of) that there was a problem and that it was associated with solidhist. (solidhist was introduced in v2007) I see it as a bug - there should be no reason to have to turn off solidhist. The only reason I know of is to avoid this intermittent, unexplained behavior. Quote
