Elektryk Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 ok im having trouble drawing 3d solid.... lets say a square or a profiled mouldnig trying to draw a 3d solid but arched... let's say 40in long and 11 high Quote
Elektryk Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 i drew a square extruded it to 96in and now i need to do an arch out of it... ???? Quote
BIGAL Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 You can extrude along a polyline as the extrude path so draw your arch shape first. Secondly draw your moulding shape seperately then use rotate3d to flip it 90 move to a corner onto your polyline path, you may need to work in a 3d view to see whats going on say vpoint 1,1,1 Then extrude I am pretty sure this is shown in the 3d tutorials/help its a common 3d exercise. ReMark Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 where would that be? Tutorials? Check out the top left-hand corner of this webpage for starters. In AutoCAD 2007 the user can Extrude, Loft or Sweep to create a solid. For creating a moulding Extrude and Sweep would both work. Quote
ReMark Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Here is a simple example of an arched object extruded along a line. The object is created out of polylines joined together. It is copied to a line using its midpoint. Then it is extruded using the Path option. The path, in this case, is the line. Our object can be any sample you can create (ex. - a moulding). Quote
CadGuy74 Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 A way i find nice and easy is i would draw the initial shape then turn it to a region and extrude to the desired legnth. Hope that helps too. Quote
ReMark Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 I tend to use polylines almost exclusively so I sometimes forget about Region. Region is ideal for those who tend to use lines more often than not. Quote
BIGAL Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Thanks for the sketch ReMark thats exactly what I was saying the path polyline can be quite complex, remember the rotate3d to flip your "moulding" shape Quote
Elektryk Posted January 14, 2010 Author Posted January 14, 2010 thx guys ive got it drew a polyline and worked fine thx again Quote
ReMark Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Glad to hear you have it figured out Elektryk. Quote
