Polly64 Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Hi all I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question....but couldn't figure out where to put it.... Anyway...I'm looking to buy a book to help me master 3D in Autocad 2009. I'm particularly interested in architectural and interior design drawings. I've come across this book on Amazon - "Autocad 2009 for Interior Design - A 3D approach" by Zane Curry. Can anyone tell me if its worth buying? Or maybe someone can recommend another book that can help? Quote
ReMark Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 I cannot comment upon the book you mention although I have seen it recommended in the past. The one book I can recommend is "AutoCAD 2009 and AutoCAD LT 2009, No Experience Necessary" by Jon McFarland. Another book I got a lot out of was Alan Kalameja's book "AutoCAD 2007 3-D Modeling, A Visual Approach". I'm not sure if there is a more recent version. Quote

I already have the book of Jon McFarland which I found extremely helpful but it doesn't really go into details with 3D. I already have a basic idea how to create a simple 3D drawing but I still feel I'm working blindly....if you know what I mean! What I need is a book which will help me learn how to set up 3D drawings of both the exterior and interiors of a building, including the surrounding areas, i.e. landscaping, etc.. I have experience as a draughts(wo)man (draughtsperson??) but using the primitive tools....drawing board and t-square! So I'm hoping to master Autocad so I can go back to work.....eventually! But I need to become alot more confident working with 2D and 3D. I've got 2D sorted so now I need to work on 3D. Sorry....I think I've rambled on abit too much.... Quote
ReMark Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 OK. That's a tall order (interiors, landscaping, etc.). Can't say I know of a specific one although there is the Sykes book entitled "3D AutoCAD 2009: One Step at a Time". Quote
Polly64 Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 Just had a look but I still haven't found the book you mentioned, ReMark. I came across another one though.... "3D modelling in Autocad" by John wilson. Unfortunately it doesn't specify what version of Autocad its based on. Quote

Basically I just need to be confident in 3D...of course, a book will only teach me so much, I guess. Will have a quick look to see if I find that book....I have an idea I've come across it as the name seems familiar but I wasn't sure if its what I need! Thats the problem with buying books online....you can't browse through them before buying.... Thanks again for your help! Quote
ReMark Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Well what the books won't teach some of the experts here will. Just don't count on me to do that as I'm still in the learning stages too! Quote

I've already found out that I can learn alot more from everyone here than any book....but a book is a good place to start otherwise I'll be bombarding you all with questions!!! And, believe me, you really don't want that.... Quote
Sketchy36 Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 I can recommend 3D AutoCAD ( Your version) One Step At A Time. Sykes/ Forager Publications, Autodesk Authorised Publisher. Really found this book quite detailed in its explanations and teachings. Found mine on Amazon. Hope this helps. Quote
