Hello,

i want to create a dynamic block that i can change the text from a look up table or something similar. for simplicity, i want to change two difference texts from two different drop down menus or look up tables. So for example: i have A and 1 as the texts...i want to change a to something predefined to say B, C, or D. and on the other side (independently) i want to change the text of 1 to say, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, ..10. Is there a way i can do this with AutoCAD 2010 using the dynamic blocks?

Yes, the AutoCAD help section shows you how to use those features. Just look up dynamic blocks and navigate to the section on "Lookup Tables". It will show you how to use them. It takes a little bit of fooling around with, but once you make a few of them, it is easy to understand.

I have looked at that part of the help menu already but still cant seem to figure it out. I dont have a parameter selected as it not available for text, only for lengths, rotations, etc. So when i create a lookup table parameter, then i create a lookup actions, then when i go to look up proerities and select add properities, my text is not there as an option. Only my properities such as visibility exist. i have attached what i have right now...it might clarify what im trying to do.... Im trying to change the 1 : xx and the XXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXX XX....

I guess I don't understand why you wouldn't just have two editable attributes in the block that you can change to what you want instead of building a large lookup table or visibility states.

Can you save the file to a lower version? I have 2008 and can't open it.

Well, its to reduce errors in the scaling labeling. also lets the guy CADing know what he can choose. So im not sure if this is possible or not. i have been looking for a while on how to do this, but nothing yet...any help would be apprecaited...

There is a shape file that I don't have to support your block. Also when I open it there aren't any dynamic features. I can tell it had some at one point, but for some reason I am unable to check out your block. Maybe because I have a lower version, not sure. Hopefully someone will come along and be able to take a look at your block.

What I was able to pick out of your block is a detail label (with a 1) and an elevation label (with an A). It also has 1:XX and XXX-XXXX-XXXX-XX XX - I'm assuming the ratio is the scale you want to edit - what is the other series of x's for? Also, were there other items in your block besides the detail and elevation labels? Can you be more specific about what you want to accomplish with your block? Do you want your cad guy to fill in the information or just be able to select predefined info to show up? and in what areas?

i have the visibility working fine...so the user can select between selection, elevation and section. so there is no issue there. Now the 1:XX is the scale. So i want the user to be able to scroll through a predefined list and select one. Then i want him to be able to enter in the information for the X's (those X's are for reference drawings for our purposes). Now the second thing i want them to be able to select from a predefined list is the letters in the 3/4 circle (A, B, C, 1, 2, or 3...so numeric or alphabetic). Hope that clarifies what im trying to do.

Maybe it's just me, but I would make atributed text and let the drafter fill it in as needed. Have your selection of elevation and detail in a visibilty state and then have the A, 1, scale, and the reference number as attributes.

Check this block to see if it will work for you or if you can modify it to work for you.
