When I draw objects in 3dspace and try to add other objects to main object being drawn..they get sent into the middle of nowhere...I'm using proper ucs's (ie. front, back, right, left...etc)...........another similar problem i was having here was whenever i try to draw on the front of an object(ie. box) object gets drawn on back....any ideas where i'm going wrong here? Thanks in advance

Are you using SNAPS?...

Do you have Dynamic UCS turned on?

It sounds like you are not properly locating your UCS. What visual style are you using when you relocate the UCS? Are you using Osnaps to locate it (on a face of a wall for example) or are you just "eyeballing" it? "Close enough" only counts in horseshoes and grenade throwing.

Along with the comments regarding the UCS remember as you construct objects they are created based on the current "Z" axis. So if you are building a model with components in relation to one another use the OSnaps as suggested rather than direct coordinate entry. If you prefer direct coordinate entry you can achieve the same results by setting the UCS origin to a point on existing geometry.

Attach a file here that exhibits this behavior.

Also check Elevation setting.

thanks everyone for the rapid and excellent advice...I ended up turning off dynamic ucs and it worked right away...Should the only tabs i have on in 3dspace be osnaps and possibly ortho? thanks again everyone!

I don't know why you would turn it off. That is the best thing AutoCAD came up with in the last 4 years... You'll find it will speed up your 3D work considerably.

I turn off the Dynamic UCS as well. Never liked it much. I tend to use Osnaps a lot and toggle Ortho where needed.

When you want to place an object near other objects or at a specific distance from other objects you can also use "snap from".

Initiate a command such as "move"...select object....choose base point on the object to move...command "snap from".....choose a point on an object to snap from... enter full coordinates such as (@ 10,5,3)....don't forget the "Z" .

You can also create and locate new geometry using the command"snap from" such as "draw box".. "snap from" etc.

I use DUCS extensively. Can't believe that anyone would not use it. I do toggle off from time-to-time, but it should normally be on.
