Password Protected Drawings???

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Does anybody know how to remove the password protection from a autocad drawing, or know of software that can do it for Autocad 2010?

I'm in trouble here and can't remember or find the password anywhere!

Can you password a *.dwg drawing? Does Autocad 2010 do this?

Try Windows Explorer, right click on the file name, open properties.

Unselect write protected.

Might this be the problem?

Yes, type SECURITYOPTIONS at the command line.

Not sure how to remove the password without actually opening the drawing though?

I can only assume you are talking about your own drawing that you have forgotten the password for?

Passwords exist for a reason.

If it was easy to override / remove them we would all be in trouble.

There is no way I know of to break your way into the drawing by brute force. If you have forgotten the password kiss your drawing goodbye.

Tankman: Yes, AutoCAD does offer password protection for drawings. They even warn you not to forget your password. Write the password down and keep it in a safe place.

Now, back to the problem at hand. Is there a BAK file of this drawing still on your hard drive or on the company's network drive?

From your AutoCAD Help file.

"Warning. If you lose a password, it is not recoverable. Before you add a password to a drawing, you should create a backup that is not protected with a password."

Oh well, start over again I guess.

Thanx guys!
