Hello All,

I have to buy a new workstation for my department. I have spec'd out a nice machine for running Inventor, which is what we are upgrading to.

The machine is an HP Workstation xw6200 running Windows xp pro.

I will need to stay with my current Autocad R14 for a short while longer.

Will Autocad R14 run alright on this new box??

Any suggestions?

Thanks

R14 will be flying with your new machine. You have never seen speed like that before. No newer version is capable of that.

Hey Pete, it should be fine. The only thing you might have to do is to install and run r14 in Win2K compatibility mode. I assume that you will be using Win XP pro, correct? When you go to install r14 right-click on the setup.exe icon and choose Properties and then click on the Compatability tab. Here you can it to run under Win2K mode. I have had to do this on a few older programs. You may not have to do this but if it does not work then this should be the answer. Good luck.

I had to work on R14 a while back and if you run AutoCAD 14 in any of the Windows XP Compatibility Modes, some commands won't work: MATCHPROP, IMAGE, and all the image related commands...

Wow, did not know that!! I have never tried r14 on an XP box so I did not know what problems would arise. Thanks for the into.

There is no need to do any compability setting. Just straight default install will do it. I've done that and I was very impressed with the speed and stability.

Really?? I have seen where compatibility had to be used with r2000. It would not install any other way. I have not tried r14 with XP so I was only assuming that it had to be used as well. Perhaps not. Thanks for the tip Paul.

Exactly. Acad2000 wouldn't install on XP Pro without it. In 2002++, the problem was fixed but R14 (my favorite) is just smooth sailing.

If your reseller sells HP products (www.aeccadcon.com), you can get two HP 4200s for the price of one right now
