hi I have an Autocad contour map of an actual place which I used to create a terrain in 3d vis. All ok but then I wanted to add rivers (the terrain slopes a lot).

So I locked the terrain and using 3d snap on the contour map I tried to trace new splines that would lock to the terrain, this creates the river but often the new 3d river splines snap to the contour map (flat) and not to the 3d terrain.

Can anyone suggest whether I should lock the 3d terrain or the contour map or change the snap settings?

Once the new 3d river fits over the 3d terrain I will extrude it down to riverbed depth then boolean it from the 3d terrain (so the 3d terrain has river valleys) then insert the rivers back again into the rivervalley indented terrain. If there is a simpler way of creating river/river valleys on a slope please advise!
