when i save a 2000 version dxf to a R14 version dxf i loose constraints and have open ends any ideas why this happens or how to fix it?

Its probably because R14 is from 1997 i.e. 13 years old and does not support features like dynamic constraints that were introduced with later versions.

Only suggestion is save to a later version not R14.

I know that if there were any Polylines, or used to be polylines that got trimmed, then R-14 will not show them properly. or least not as envisioned.

Do not go one step further after the DXF-OUT, but getout of the process and close the file immediately, and then reopen it up. For the save-as processs will then again begin on altering your drawing to latest format, and one in which R-14 may not recognise properly. Just take a quicky look at the new filee in M-S Notepad or something for a change in character.
