The req's call out for an individual server (high end) to handle data transfer and storage of the Inventor project files and stuff. Right now we have a server where we're going to store all of the projects, but its a shared server by the whole company.

I mean, is it really necessary? are we going to have broken links if we do not use the vault when opening files on another computer???

i know what the vault does, i just want to know if it is smart to try to get by without it.

If you are working on a project, on your own. You don't need vault but if you are collaborating then yes. :D :D

You can assign passwords to 'sign' out parts, then update them.

You could allow some people to view parts 1,2,5 and not allow them to edit them.

It's all about controlling the design and data.

USE it. 8)

Yip, just think how much of a mess a collaborative project would be
without it.

what if the project is on the regular server and there's only one person worksing on that project. It could be different people but only one person at a time.

do i need to use vault then?

No, that would just be a normal open/shut file, without passwords.

Basically VAULT is for when you have sub contractors or offices geographically distant, or you want to control veriosn and updates.
