Hi
Can some one help an oldie who is some what rusty!!
I am using AutoCad 2006, or at least trying to blow away the mental cobwebs
with it,I have drawn the outline of a steel beam and then joined it all using pedit, then extrude it to the lenght I need.
I then copyied it and aligned the second on to form a tee, the top beam at a slight angle.
The upright beam extends through the top beam and I need to trim it, no luck,do I have to explode the polylines first or am I forgetting some thing from
my collage days??

Have you tried the SLICE command? For the slicing plane you can probably select 3 corners of the beam as the slicing plane.

Everyone does things diffrent so im not sure what you prefer.

- you could, when extrudeing the beam, extrude it to the exact length you need, or use "solidedit" to extrude the face shorter or longer than it is.
- you could use the "slice" command to slice off what you dont need
- you could use "solidedit" command to move the face to where you need.

and im sure alot of other ways that i dont know or didnt think of.

hope i helped :D

you can also make a solid on top of wherever you want to trim and do a subtract solid :o

Use the extrude faces command and input a negative value for the extrusion path.

Copy the second beam to one side

Subtract the original second beam from the first

Use the separate command to disconnect any extra portions of beam

Erase the extra portions of beam

Move the copied beam to its original position

Hi
Thanks to all for the replys.
I fianaly managed to achive what I wanted,to be honest it took me quite awhile.
I tried to slice the polylines but no go,I tried from diffrent views, zoomed in to
make sure I was pick right still no go.
I rememberd what I had be told many moons ago about layers and construction lines,
and tackeld it that way, my beams where on diffrent layers, wall and roof, so I construsted
a box line around the upright beam where it intesected the roof beam,
then turned of the roof layer used slice and bingo it waorked, polyline sliced.
turned on roof layer and what I wanted was there.
Still not sure as to why it would not slice with two polylines, but the end result worked.

Many thanks all

Bob
