cannot get taper to work on one of two solids

ok, i have a basic 3d solid drawing with two parts in it. i am trying to taper matching faces on each solid. One solid will taper and the other will not taper on any face at all, being frustrated i randomly tried different faces. I can select taper faces and go thru all the motions, but when i hit enter, it shows enter face editing option and presents the list. thought it might be a layer thing, but it doesn't look like it is that, maybe i haven't constructed the face correctly, but why wouldn't the other faces taper then?, properties shows the part as a 3d solid. i am at a loss and need to get this thing to the machine shop. hope someone can help!

ok i figured out the problem. there were two surfaces that did not connect exactly near this face, when i fixed them i was able to taper the face. whats another three hours of my life dealing with frustration anyways.
