Tabs under New are gone

Just started inventor, and love it. Have inventor 9 at home and no problems. Seems though my teacher is learning the program as he goes. I run the lab at school, and some people have managed to make the tabs disapear when you select new. The only one that shows is default (no more metric, english,ect.). The instructor is lost, as I am. Have searched the help files, but havent found anything yet. Does any1 know a simple way to restore those tabs? I would like to figure this out for myself in case it happens to me at home, as well as fix it at school so I don't have to make people play musical chairs when switching from cad to invent. Thanks ahead of time.

Tools>Customize and Reset all environments is for IV7, not sure about 9.

Thanks for the quick reply. Just got back to lab today, and I didnt want to play around with the version at home (aint broke, don't fix it..). I'll try that as soon as I have a chance.

ha! i read this last week and just today i figured out how to get rid of the tabs by mistake... go to program files/inventor/templates and then in there there's two folders called metric and english. delete them and voila!

so yeah accidental discovery id thought id add to the thread so the info is all here for future reference or for people who use the search feature. k later! :lol:

Good, thanks. I'll maybe delete the Inches one since we teach kids metric in 8) Scotland 8) here.

yeah i deleted both folders. left only the default which is feet and inches for me. and i discovered i can throw my template files in that folder and they show up now when i hit New drawing.

i lob it! :lol:

That's handy. I hate having to change projection to 3rd angle all the time.

On the subjetct of templates can i add, a great thing to do is create your own template file and it will show up with the others under the default tab,

I have my own template file with a CENTER POINT projected in place.
So when I start a new ipt. I dont have to keep projecting a centre point to get my sketches fully constrained
as i just start from the center point already in place.

1 Open a new part
2 Progect Geometry
3 (in browser) click origin
4 Center Point

5 Save the to Autodesk Inventor Template folder rename it to your name
.ipt

6 now go back to OPEN NEW and there u have it your own template file,

Also set this up with your own styles before you save it. make it your own.
