wastewater
We are looking into moving from AutoCAD to Mechanical one of the reasons for this move is for the BOM that Mechanical Provides. My Question is right know we have over 1000 AutoCAD blocks with attribute information like PART NUMBER and PART DESCRIPTION. How easly is it to change those blocks into Parts? Also is there away to have the Attributes change into properties inside those parts? Thanks
MarkFlayler
Were you able to get this answered? If not I can test this out for you. The way Mechanical works it can use Layer Management, Blocks, or Structure to accomplish a BOM, but when a block is used normally you have to assign a Part Reference to it so you might have to redo all that attribute work. I am about 90% sure you will not get your original attributes to map to BOM references. Have you considered using Data Extraction to create a makeshift BOM with your existing blocks. This tool can look in a drawing and do QTY and ATT reporting on what is there.
