MAREBER Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Good morning, I am currently working with a new 2010 version, and recently noticed that the hatch choices are severly limited. After trying to download free hatches... I also noticed that I can't locate the folder that contains the existing .pat files. So, this is a 2 part question... Can someone please help me find my hatch folder and can someone please direct me to some free hatch patterns? I am specifically looking for landscape patterns such as rock and stone. (Ashlar, aggregate, etc) Thanks so much in advance. Quote
lpseifert Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 1. at the command line type (findfile "acad.pat") that will find the acad.pat file that acad uses/finds first 2. Try googling (googleing?) "Free hatch patterns" I bet you get a lot of hits Quote
MAREBER Posted May 12, 2010 Author Posted May 12, 2010 THANKS FOR THE REPLY, HOWEVER, MY PROGRAM IS NOT RECOGNIZING THE COMMAND 'FINDFILE' Opps, sorry for the caps... Quote
MAREBER Posted May 12, 2010 Author Posted May 12, 2010 Wait a minute... I didn't use the parentheses! "C:\\Users\\Melanie\\appdata\\roaming\\autodesk\\autocad 2010\\r18.0\\enu\\support\\acad.pat" Quote
MAREBER Posted May 12, 2010 Author Posted May 12, 2010 Alright, so I don't see the file 'appdata'. Could this be a hidden file? And if so, how do I get this computer to show hidden files. (sorry for the lame questions...) Quote
MAREBER Posted May 12, 2010 Author Posted May 12, 2010 Alright, so I found it and it was a hidden file. Doesn't this seem to be more buried than it should be? For example... IF I can find a hatch download that I like, or if I want to transfer hatches from my other CAD program... Is this really the correct file to place hatches? It just seems very inaccessible to me. lpseifert Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Doesn't this seem to be more buried than it should be? I kinda think so too... I think it's a way so different users can use different/personalized files. Is this really the correct file to place hatches? Hatch patterns don't necessarily need to be described in the acad.pat file. Any valid pat file can be accessed through Hatch > Custom as long as it's in the support path. Quote
MAREBER Posted May 12, 2010 Author Posted May 12, 2010 Another lame question... what do you mean by 'support path'? Quote
Dana W Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Wait a minute... I didn't use the parentheses! "C:\\Users\\Melanie\\appdata\\roaming\\autodesk\\autocad 2010\\r18.0\\enu\\support\\acad.pat" One of the reasons its so hard to find these files in windows explorer(My Computer) is because Microsoft thinks we're all morons and won't let us see the real thing. The file structure you see in Windows XP, Vista, and 7 when you use Windows explorer (My Computer) are actually psuedo directories. They are just a bunch of catagories that try to protect you from yourself. To see the real files you either have to know the name and search for it in My Computer, or drill down through your Control Panel to Network and Internet > Internet Options > General Tab > Settings > View Files. It'll come up in the Temporary Internet Files folder. Make sure your folder view sidebar on the left is open so you can navigate up out of the c:/~~//username/AppData/Local/ back down to c:/~~//username/AppData/Roaming/Autodesk folders. On your way back out of there, hit the Delete button on the General Tab so the FBI won't come and find you. It'll clean out your internet history files for you. Tsk! Tsk! Quote
