nick777
I have a map in AutoCad and I'd like to change the origin of the coordinate system to reflect the value of the state plane coordinate system (in feet), so that all of the distances/locations of the objects will be in real-world locations. Alternatively, I may consider using lat/long, but I'm guessing its the same process. How can I do this?
JoeC
I'm not sure I completely understand what you want, but have you tried the UNITS command to see if you can change the settings to what you need? You may also try searching "units" in the Autocad help. Good luck.
nick777
Well, I want to georeference the map to a real-world coordinate system, if possible. My objects exist at geographical locations on the earth, and I want the drawing to reflect those coordinates. So, it would be set up such that each pole, street, etc. is located at the correct lat/longs, or at the correct feet (using the state plane coordinate system). I'd rather not move the origin since for the state of CT, the origin is in NJ and I don't want my map that big. The units command will let you change the units it is displayed in, but can I change the origin that autocad uses, so that it is not displayed at 0,0 but at another point that I specify, such as 73 degrees, 43 minutes 33 seconds, north, by 42 degrees (etc) West or by y feet north by x feet east? Eventually, I'll be bringing this project into an ESRI ArcGIS project, so I'd like to do everything possible to prepare it for that. Thanks. JoeC
Hmmm, sounds like you need to manipulate the UCS (something I don't know much about). Try searching help for UCS or for _UCS.
