salman
Using line command we can draw lines by using direct distance entry technique. Today I was working on a drawing, I needed to draw a line of x units length parpendicular to another line. After starting line command using parpendicular snap I picked the start point of the required line, but when entered distance to get the end point of the line, it length was not x units as required, I tried 3 4 times but failed to get a line of length x. Please guide. Thanks.
MikeScott
I typically offset a line the distance I want and then draw a line from one to Perpedicular to the other.
MikeScott
answered nicely by Dana in your other post.
BIGAL
Tried to find answer by dana Anyway if the lines your trying to draw are always square compared to another line then turn off all osnaps (F3) but make sure ortho is on (F8) just pick a point drag and then type a distance. Ok I can here you saying but my line is on angle just do UCS Ob pick new line now you are square to the other line to return to normal UCS W . rvpas
Hi everyone, There is an other way, When you start your line, you can overide osnap to choose deferred perpendicular 1st- L 2nd- Specify first point: shift+right click and select perpendicular 3rd- approach the line, you will see your marker with 3 points it means deferred perpendicular (see image) 4th- give your direct distance thats it ! But the only trouble, you have to move your line after. There are no tricks Bye Pascal
eldon
Use Polar tracking

rvpas
Hi Dana W, I saw the post, I know this way also. Thanks ! I often am to ask, why autocad works like this ? Because sometime we need to start the line from one specific point. In this case, I use XLine with deffered perpendicular and strangely that works ? The voices of the Autocad are sometime impénètrable..... Bye Pascal PS:In fact, what is that I won ? (it's a joke)
