 Just spent the morning working on a drawing, spent 5hrs on it,went to add a leader in mspace and the unhandled error message thing popped up!The drawing crashed,so I thought it's alright ill rename my back up file and work from that. The back up file won't work either now :( !It says"Cannot find the specified drawing file. Please verify that the file exists."Guess I should have made more regular saves.Talk about dammed annoying.I previously decreased my temporary save time increments and specified the temporary drawing file location,so that life would be a bit easier and have less problems.Does anyone know of another way to get around this problem, there are proffessional drawing recovery teams out there but theyre too expensive. In fact now I check all my BAK files and they give me the same message as above

In theory you should be able to open any .BAK file renamed as .DWG but if you're having problems with it, try doing a drawing recovery. File>Drawing Utilities>Recover... and see what happens.

Ive found the BAK file I need, has the nearest time and date to the crash.I renamed it so that it has "dwg" at the end of the file name.I tried opening it and got the mesage stated in my previous post.I've tried the drawing recover through CAD itself but when i go to open the file, its not there, doesnt show any of my BAK files. If I look in explorer all the BAK files are with a red AutoCAD "A" with a flick of yellow. Its just not working :(

Try this:
rename the BAK file, open a new drawing and INSERT the renamed file. If you are out of luck, try with XREF. If again you are out of luck, I can not help you. Sorry!

Yeh Ive tried that Fuccaro and no luck.If I rename the files, even my autosave version AutoCAD doesnt recognise these files, they dont appear when i go to recover them via the drawing utilities route.Something weird is going on!

Bingo! It's back :D .Rebooted my pc and changed the .sv$ to dwg. for my temporary save file.Problem solved. Also realised that a wonderful function of windows hides the extensions of my files! You can uncheck this option in Tools-Folder Options-View-Hide file extensions for known file types.(for win2k),that was throwing me about before.
