Can someone help - I hope!!!

I'm using ACAD 2004 - i have a client that is using 2005 - i have asked him to convert the drawing that he works on that he is going to send me to version 2004 or 2000 (whatever 2005 converts to) - when he does this some drawing open up just fine - but most of the drawing i try to open up in 2004 it locks ACAD up and have to shut down - but i can open it up in version 2000 - if i save the drawing in 2000 i still can't open it in 2004 - something funny is going on with 2005 converting or at least i think this - has any one else experienced this and is there a solution to the problem - i hope i explained this clear

thanks for any help i can get

Richie

There is no need to convert. 2004, 2005, and 2006 all share the "2004 DWG" drawing format.

Is your client using a vertical product such as ADT or LDT? If so, ask him to use "Export to AutoCAD", not "Save" or "SaveAs"

if there is no need to convert then i have a problem somewhere. the only reason i was having my client convert because i could never open any of his drawings before. i can't remember if i was getting a incompatible version message or it just locked up or both. I appreciate your help with this - i guess i will try some other approach to this - somewhere somehting is messing up and it's driving me nuts

AutoCAD 2004 can open any version AutoCAD drawing, since 2004 is the latest DWG version. To verify this, open one of these drawings in NOTEPAD. Look at the first 6 bytes. It should be "AC1018"

Take a look at this page for some more ideas.
