Hi all...

Has anyone ever thought that we have a higher than average level of CAD experience here on the forum - and that we could possibly make more use of it - ie offering our combined services to a waiting world?
I'm not trying to use the board as a free recruiting agency - I'm just interested to know if I'm the only one that has had this thought?

It's an interesting point and I've given it a lot of thought over the years but I have now come to realise that although people are more than willing to take free advice, they are rather less willing to pay for it.

Numerous websites that used the "pay for" model have come and gone over the years, while most of the surviving sites (such as this one) provide a free service.

That's not to say it couldn't work but you'd have to have a very good model.

Hi CADTutor

I agree with your point entirely, the angle I was thinking of was more a "loose" partnership of the more proficient members sharing work on an availability basis - if it could be made to work efficiently it could make for a great design/cad company.

Consulting, design, devolepment etc...We all have an interest in Cad on this site obviously, and we probably come from as many backgrounds as there are users on this site - with the advent of high bandwidth net access at last, there is a chance to be able to form a worldwide partnership - if people wanted - offering a whole range of services, based on who had "free" time at that moment.

Again CADTutor, please don't think I'm trying to use your site as a recruiting agency, I'm just thinking aloud and seeing if anyone else has had the same idea ever...

That is how ResourceCAD got started. We have been going for about 2 years now, although it took us about 6 months of that to get things organised.
We have been lucky in getting a few good clients who keep returning to us for more work and we are currently involved in a couple of long term projects which keeps us ticking over.
The biggest problem we found is that while a lot of people will express an interest, when it comes to doing the actual work, especially the behind the scenes stuff (and there is a lot of that !), then a lot of the people who showed interest initially will back off.

Hi Hendie

So I'm not the only one then? I'm a bit bombed out at the minute trying to get everything finished by lunchtime, but I'll have a closer look at your site over the wekend - would joining be by invitation only?
