importing 3ds files into each other?

I hope this is an easy issue,

I have drawing A,

which is a room,

I have also done drawings B,C,D and E,

how do I bring them all together into drawing A?

I have tried to import on '3DS files', which shows nothing, but it displays the files on 'all files',

so when i do click ok it shows a box, 'no appropriate import mdule found', followed by 'improper file format'

any suggestions would be nice,

cheers guys and gals

You can't import 3ds unless you have exported your models to .3ds format.

From what I understand, you have 4 Studio Max files, (A, B, C & D), with the .max extension correct?

You can bring them all in to one file using the Merge option, not Import.

thanks very much for that cad64, I tried merge later and got it in ok,

I have not used that before,

so if i export it, can i import it back into the A drawing?

Yes, if you Export to .3ds then you can Import back in, but using Merge is better because you can UVW map your model and apply all your materials so that your model is 100% finished and ready to go. Then when you Merge the model into your file, it comes in with all of it's materials applied already. If you Import a .3ds file, you then have to map your materials again because .3ds files contain no UV or mapping information.
