I was wondering why can't you fillet a 3dpoly line? It seems that with the Technology that we have something could of been done!!

There are lots of things you can't do to 3D Polylines - that's AutoCAD

You can edit the nodes to create a 'fillet like' result, even in 3 dimensions.

TRY IT

type the command PEDIT, then hit F1. Help will popup with a full explainaion. Try the spline spiral it's cool. Then extrude an object along it, even better.

Well I was trying to make a A/C duct run through a couple of rooms --a couple of turns trying to use just 4 pieces of metal. I made two 3dpoly lines and made mesh between them. after I flatten the mesh thus creating my correct geomerty and part. I had to Put a radius in one corner and it did not let those damn poly lines.... so I set it up to pick in increments every 1/4" traced a cricle that I drew and It worked out okay. I do apprecated the help thuogh Maybe next time i'll get around to it. I still think something should be done about editing 3d-polys................................!

I presume you tried the vertex editing ?

Yes, I have. Also I tried making several different pieces of mesh then flatten them out and then piece them togeter. i found that this is the way I should of done it because the tangents are more visable than before. I guess the surftab for one whole piece might have to set very high.

Can not create solids separately for each linear and curved segment and use UNION to join them? I prefer to work with solids rather than with surfaces.

Fuccaro,

I have modeled this as solids firt to see how it needs to be layed out but our CNC machine only reconizes 2-d flat surfaces from which it cuts. So some transitions of the ductwork had to be made a mesh then flattened and jioned together to develop the parts. I have been working with solids a long time and agree it is easier to do but that again is where I was furious that we still can't edit 3dpolys.

To join 3d-lines, 3d-arcs, splines and polylines try out my PEDIT3D.
