inter-compatibility of AutoCAD and CATIA

I have been working with AutoCAd for quiet some time now. Recently met with an accident and happened to come across CATIA.

Can anyone brief me with the inter-compatibility of the two, since In the Drafting Workbench invoking the Import DWG command directly opens AutoCAD and after updating the drawing in CATIA it is imported as a image rather then a drawing
