This is probably an easy one,I just cant find out how to do it.Our company uses particular font, some extra TTF and SHX.Ive installed the extra fonts via explorer in my windows files, not copy and paste rather installing the font. What I cant work out is why does CAD substitute these fonts:
simplex.shx for ROMANS.shx,isocp2.shx and another company SHX font?I cant install these SHX fonts in my windows fonts as they are particular to CAD and are not TTF fonts.Ive also added both the CAD font path and windows font path to my CAD search paths. If these fonts arent being shown Ill have problems creating drawings, wont actually be seeing the font Im working with until I view it at work :( CAD2K

Find in the AutoCAD SUPPORT directory the file named ACAD.FMP and open it with Notepad. Each line means a substitution. Probably you have something like
simplex; ROMANS____.shx
That informs AutoCAD to replace the simplex font with romans.shx so just delete the unwanted lines. Make a copy of the file before you change it.

FMP I guess thats the font mapping file :) .When I delete the line out say I have simplex; ROMANS____.shx as you said,do I delete this entire line out or just the ____.shx ?

Delete the entire line! Or just edit the line and give an other font to be used in the place of the unwanted one.
When you open a drawing press F2 to swich to the text screen. If AutoCAD changed the fonts as is described in the FMP file, you will see something like:
Opening an AutoCAD 2000 format file.
Substituting [ARIAL.TTF] for [txt].
Also it is possible to operate the changes from inside of the AutoCAD, but I can not tell you how. Sorry, I am old fashioned man. I still write the html code for my web page using the Notepad...

Try entering "fontalt" at the command line and change the default font substitution there.

Yeh Ive opened the font map file but as far as I remember the romans file and others were not in there,I'll check when I get home later and try the fontalt.
