crushmaster Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 1. is it possible to change a block in one drawing(save it) and do not change it in other drawings? 2. is it possible to rename an existing block? 3. when i want to use a block in one drawing(say drawing A) from another drawing(say drawing B) throughdesign center,i must first open drawing B,right?so is there some other 'kind' of block i can use in every drawing and do not open other drawings? I do not use much blocks before because i do not assembly coponents much, most of the work in to draw parts, now i have to deal with assemblings and the block commands, any smart commands to recommend is appreciated! I am using version 2007 AutoCad,than you in advance Quote

Yes you can change a block in drawing A and it will stay looking the same if it was already inserted in drawing B, C, etc. 2. Yes, use the rename command. 3. Drawing B does not have to be open. If you have blocks you think you will want to use over and over then create a `library' drawing. This is simply a drawing somewhere on your hard drive where you will insert blocks you want to use later. Then in Design Center you navigate to that drawing file and insert away. You can create a toolpalette from that library drawing (not sure about 2007) by right clicking on the drawing from Design Center and pick add to tool palette. Quote
nestly Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 (edited) 1) Blocks are stored in the drawing, so changing them will not affect any other drawing. 2) You can rename a block with the "RENAME" command 3) You do not have to open drawing "B" to borrow the block, you only need to use design center (or INSERT) to find the drawing. If you put the block on a Tool Palette, it will always be available without searching for the source drawing. *edit* Redundant post is redundant. Edited October 27, 2010 by nestly I'm too slow. Quote
