View Full Version : Object snap lock problem

Hi, there seems to be a bug in Acad 2002 (and 05, too), where, if you have object snaps running, start a command like copy or move, and then realize that you don't want object snaps, and turn them off, they still appear on screen and snap your cursor to them.

This is fairly annoying because I often have more than a few objects selected and then I have to either zoom around trying to get out of snaps or cancel command and do it again, and select objects again (I do know that you can re-select previous selection set).

Is there any work around for this? I noticed that sometimes it happens, and at other times it does not. What does that depend on? Thx!

Never seen that. Can't reproduce it here.

no answer but the draughty in our office on 2004 (the rest of us were on 2002) complained non stop. It's improved in 2006 but is still there. ou just have to be patient.

I experimented a bit and found that object tracking causes that, and only if it acquired a snap already before you turn off the osnap. In addition, if the spot is very simple (I used 2 lines for testing), it will keep snap a couple of times after turning osnap off, and then it will disappear.

Osnap *always* turns off properly if: 1. otrack is off 2. osnap is turned off before any otrack point is acquired.

This is almost entirely solves my problem, 'cause I'll just keep otrack off - I don't use it often. It's much less of a nuisance to keep it off rather than go through the moves when osnap refuses to turn off.

It's a little funny that I suffered with this for a couple of years at least, and all it took was asking a question and then 2 minutes of experimentation.. and, no joke, this was my main nuisance in Autocad! Thanks..

I have just become th office hero thanks to you, and the swearing has reduced so much! :D

Do you know when object traking was introduced? I never intentionally turned it on and having read how to use it I'm not sure if I have a need.

I use it all the time -- if you ever need to start something at the same x coordinate as another object, but a different y, otrack is the way to go. Also good for getting the center point of rectangles.

Glad you became an office hero. Today was the first day I worked without this annoying problem, and it's very neat. I didn't miss obj tracking today, but sometimes I do use it. Of course, it makes much more sense for me now to keep it off and only turn it on when I do need it.

8) The idea behind OTRACK is to minimise construction lines/work, by using otrack you can obtain starting point based on temporary osnaps points..

this can very usefull when utilised with osnap, polar and temporary tracking points...

It's cut down the amount of construction line I used to create...

BTW...to remove the tracking point left when you placed the cross hairs over a point simply place the cross hair over it again or zoom realtime with your mouse wheel.

ahh, don't use construction lines very often, especially now with the "between 2 points" object snap of 2006 - now THAT is brilliant!

I also love "between two points". I've been using it for years, on Mechanical. Good to know that it made it's way to plain ACAD.
