Try http://www.progecad.com/ for a free version of IntelliCAD 6 for non-commercial use. IntelliCAD is very similar to AutoCAD LT, and is just as clunky to use.
I like to use Visual CADD. It is derived from Generic CADD, which Autodesk bought out and then discontinued. You can download a 30 day demo from www.tritools.com.
