Proctor Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Hello: When ever I do a file->new and open a paticular template, I get prompted for a certain shape file. The shape file was called ltypeshp.shx. At any rate, i did a search for this file and found it...so now when i prompts me, I select the file; however, it keeps still continues to prompt me for this file each time I open Cad and do a file-> new to open that same template. I tried to save the template after opening the template with the shape file; but that didn't work. do i need to place the shape file at a specific location? i tried to look under Tool-> options to see if I could find a default setting for this file...but didn't see it. Thanks for your help, Proctor Quote
CyberAngel Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 In a standard installation of AutoCAD, your ltypeshp.shx file will be put in your general support folder, and one of your search paths for support files will point to that folder. If you're getting a prompt for it, it means that a) none of your other templates/drawings use that shape file; and/or b) the file got moved. As a first step, I would check the support file folder path against the folder where you actually found the file. Another possibility is that the template contains a shape or shapes that are not in ltypeshp, and the prompt is asking for the location of a default shape file that can be used in lieu of that other shape file. This can happen when you get a drawing with custom shapes and you don't get the custom shape file to go with it. Quote
ReMark Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 This happens with just one particular template and no others? If so, then why would you suspect the location of ltypeshp.shx to be wrong? Quote
Proctor Posted November 16, 2010 Author Posted November 16, 2010 Thank you both for your help. When i open that same template from another machine, it does not prompt me for the shape file. it's just happening from this machine. Also, I did try to open other templates from the machine that i'm getting prompted to see if it would prompt me and i did find another template that prompted me for the same shape file; however, it's not prompting me for every template i try to open. i searched both the machine that it's not prompting and the machine it is prompting for the location of the shape file and found that for both machines, it exists in the same 2 locations. i'm just not sure what to do? perhaps i should do a re-install and see if that fixes it? thanks again, Proctor Quote
ReMark Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Sounds pretty weird to me. What is the source of this template that generates the problem? Before doing an uninstall/reinstall a better approach would be to do a Repair. Quote
Proctor Posted November 16, 2010 Author Posted November 16, 2010 Hi Remark: Thanks for your reply. Yeah, these templates contain several custom linetypes....so that must have something to do with it. At any rate, i took your advice and did a repair and that took care of it. Thanks again for your help. Proctor Quote
