Bloated scalelist?

Too many layer filters?

Are there xrefs attached?

2D or 3D drawing?

All drawings or just a particular drawing?

What are your system specs?

Some hardware specs would help as well, but there are a few things you can try:

Clear your cache

Turn off layers that are not in use right now

Turn off Xrefs that you are not working with currently

Turn off background applications that aren't essential

adjust settings for hardware acceleration (3dconfig on the command line) if you are doing 2D drawings

Purge and audit physically erase anything not required get rid of the junk, just had a serious word to one of the guys here previously waited between every regen no idea what he has done drawing is half the size still not perfect but better now.

Also check your linetypes if you have a dot type linetype at a extreme small scale it will grind the drawing to a halt.
