I just recently started using an FTP program to upload my web pages. For the last year I've been with Homestead using their crappy SiteBuilder.
When I moved off of Homestead I went and downloaded Cute FTP, but I got tired of the constant nag ads about buying the software. Then a friend told me about SmartFTP, a free program that's actually very simple to use.
I went and downloaded SmartFTP (you can check them out at http://www.smartftp.com). It was quick and painless, and no nag ads!
What I really like about SmartFTP is the interface. It resembles Windows Explorer, which I'm already used to. They have a local browser window which shows all the files and folders on your computer, and then another window opens when you connect to your ftp server. You can tile or cascade the windows to make it easier to see them both.
Uploading is a simple drag and drop. Very cool. They also have very detailed step-by-step instructions on their web site for using SmartFTP.
And the greatest thing of all about SmartFTP - it's free!
