I am currently in the process of bringing my company out of the dark ages and into the reality of using Autocad. Currently my company still draws everything by hand.

I am trying to figure out what would be the best autocad program for my company and I would appreciate any advice anyone can give to me. The work we do mostly consist of designing site plans and subdivision. We also do some marine work and thousands of septic designs.

From the research I have done Civil 3D looks like an excellent and powerful autocad program. Has anyone had any experience using this program. I also noticed Land Desktop but it looked liked Civil 3D had more to offer.

I would greatly appreciate any information anyone can give me regarding using these programs. I would especially like to hear from people that have had hands on experience. Thank you and wish me luck on getting out of the dark ages.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I have not used either but I think that a few here have and could give you some ideas. Have you contacted a local reseller? They should be able to give you a demo of what each one could do for you and your situation. Best of luck :)

I have contacted a local resaler regarding the two programs but he didn't give the information that I was looking for. So I decided to come here and see if i could get some opinions about these programs from people that have used them.

Well in case you don't find what you are looking for here, try the main AutoDesk forums on their website. Maybe somebody here will speak up about them. Good luck.

i have been using land desktop for 2 years have found it easier to use than civil 3-d. my company recently switched from ldd3 to ldd 2006 and got civil 3-d with it. we decided that civil 3-d was nice as a concept, but found it to be much too finicky and unrefined. it is a powerfull program, but land desktop can handle any of your civil needs just fine and it is semi-user friendly. if land desktop gets phased out, we will switch to civil 3-d in 2010, but for not ldd stays. land desktop is nice with its survey/point integration and ability to make surfaces/profiles/cross-sections easily.
