where's the variable for thumbnails (2006)?

My thumbnails are not always being generated when I save my drawings. I think I need to reset my Preview Settings (Options|Open and Save|Thumbnail Preview Settings) to "Acurate". It would appear to only do this on a by drawing basis as I keep doing it but when modifying an old 2006 drawing this setting reverts back to midpoint.

Any ideas on how to make it stick or at least give me a variable that I can set in a script file?

I KNOW I'm commenting to my own post but this is driving me nuts. It is not that setting - or at least not it alone. I have now opened a drawing I did earlier today but these's still no thumbnail despite the setting being "accurate". The lack of thumbnail seems to happen if I open a drawing and close it without saving.

Any ideas??????????

The system variable for this is RASTERPREVIEW - does this help?
