Im currently working on the design of a lever, i have made a 3D model of the object and have used the HIDE function to remove all hidden lines, the only problem is that the lines will not come back, even if i try to regen it :(
also i have extruded part of the model and am stuck trying to get a mesh on to the polyline surfaces
any help would be greatly appreciated :)

If you also typed SHADE your shademode will have changed then lines will not unhide. Try the SHADEMODE command, select 2d.
Not sure what your second question is. You have a solid but it has polyline surfaces(?) and you want it to be a mesh?

On 3D models the display of surfaces is controlled by two system variables SURFTAB1 and SURFTAB2 which control the number of facets used horizontally and vertically to display the model. It might be worth upping the value of these.

With SURFTAB1 and SURFTAB2 you can controll not the display but the accuracy of the surfaces.
If your surface is modelled (read: approximated) with more smaller steps it will be closer to the mathemathically perfect surface you try to construct. Sure, if the surface is modelled with more steps it will display with more lines.
