Can anyone tell me how to do tail dimensions on a mechanical drawing that are actual dimensions, not just tails with typed in dimensions?

Walter,
Let me be the first to welcome you to the Forum.....
If you don't get an answer soon you may have to re-phrase your ?.
I'm new to my current Mech postion, but I'm sorry I don't understand your question.

A tail dimension is a distance from a specified point indicated by a short arrow and the dimension. All tail dimensions would normally be from the same point. They are used to avoid the normal dimension lines to avoid cluttering the drawing. Typically, they would be used to show elevation distances on a tank, vessel, or tower. Any help would be appreciated.

Ordinate dimensioning is probably as close to what I am asking for as I will get. Many thanks. Walter.

Try suppressing dim line 2 and ext line 2 in you dim style and see if this gets you what you want. (or dim line 1 and ext line 1)
Hope this helps.
