Group of helices along a path

Hi,

I tried to make a layer which folds up into a closed ring/tubular structure.

The layer consists of a repeating sequence of helices which are aligned in a hexagon shape using the tool path deformation.

So, the first step to create the layer with the hexagonal helices work, but if I want to further modify the structure it only bend the paths of the helices and not the helices itself. Does anyone have an idea how I can roll up such a sheet?

Thanks a lot,

Ani

What version of Studio Max are you using?

I'm having a hard time trying to visualize what you're attempting to do. Can you post some screenshots to help me understand?

I assume you're trying to use the "Bend" modifier?

Have you tried converting to editable poly before trying to bend?

I am using Autodesk 3ds Max Design 2011.

I attached a picture of the sheet I was able to create so far. I hope you will get an idea of what I am trying to draw. I just want to make a tube out of this sheet- can't be so complicated, or? I tried already both, the bend modifier and to convert it into an editable poly--but still did not get what I want .icon11.gif

Maybe you have another idea how I can creat such a structure?

The only thing I can think to do would be to convert everything to editable poly, Attach them all together so they are just one object and then use the Bend modifier.

If you can upload your file I will take a look at it.

Thanks a lot for your help!

I got it now- the problem was that I selected everything. Converting only the paths leaded to my desired structure =). At the end it was so easy..
