Can't Uninstall Electrical

Recommended Posts

So one of my jobs at my company is doing all the AutoCAD research for the company. I currently have Vanilla 2011 and Electrical 2011 trials installed to try. We have decided NOT to go with Electrical, so I wanted to uninstall it. The computer I'm currently working on doesn't really have any spare space.

So I go to unistall the program, but an error message keeps popping up saying that the uninstall manager can't continue until I close acad.exe. It tells me I have to close regular AutoCAD to uninstall Electrical. But regular AutoCAD isn't running, so I don't know what to close. Any ideas?

Try booting into Safe Mode and doing the uninstall from there.

Go into Task Manager and see if acad.exe is still running.

So, I tried the safe mode, but that wouldn't work because Windows Installer doesn't start in Safe, and I don't know how to manually find and start that particular little piece of ......

So I rebooted, and tried to uninstall again, so that it would give me the error, and I could check the Task Manager... and now it's working. I'm confused. Oh well.

Apparently. Odd, I know. What's really wierd is that I don't even have vanilla AC on this computer... and LT runs under the acadlt.exe. So all I can figure is that the Electrical was blocking ITSELF from uninstalling by having the uninstall window open. It was all VERY wierd.

I got it now! It was weird, I can't figureo ut why it was running, but when I restarted it let me uninstall. That was just odd.

Glad to hear that. Will you be loading something else in its place?

You might also check the Autodesk Clean Uninstall document (search Google) there are some registry edits to really clean up an uninstall.

@RM: As soon as my real computer comes in next week (I work from home), I will be getting a new copy of Vanilla 2011. We were thinking about updating to electrical, but since one of you forum guys was smart enough to solve our auto-numbering of blocks issue, it wasn't really worth it.

@JD: I'll do that. I appreciate it. Seeing as this is my boyfriend's computer, I want to leave it as clean as possible!
